This disc rounds off the Miró Quartet's recordings of the middle string quartets, with two of Beethoven's most popular and most contrasting works: Opus 74, known as "the Harp", full of warmth and gentleness, grace and playfulness, and Opus 95, known as "Serioso" quartet, which is terse, stormy and impetuous. Drama, mysticism, anger, and anxiety all whirl by at break neck speed on this disc. With some of the swiftest and most exhilarating music ever written for string quartet, these quartets whisk the listener off his/her feet and into the air in a way only the middle-aged master could accomplish.
